김수미 Soomee Kim
"Soomee Kim is an Australian felt artist creating landscape wall art and wearable art. She obtained a Masters degree in Applied Art majoring in Batik, Tapestry and Weaving before she moved to Australia in 1986. While studying Textile Art and Design at Box Hill Institute Soo Mee was introduced to felt making and so began her journey of discovery in this medium. After working with different Australian Felters and Russian Professor Alexander Pilin she began to research the history of this ancient craft and the various traditional felt techniques of Russia, Hungary, Turkey, Mongolia and other places where felt art techniques originated. While at the same time developing her skill and a very unique style.
Soomee is pioneering her own path as a felt artist and working as a visiting professor in Designs at Ulaanbaatar University in Mongolia and has also participated in the ‘Australian Forum for Textile Arts’ ‘Grampians Textile’ and other international forums as a guest lecture.
Currently she is the Director of the Wool Designs center at Ulaanbaatar University Mongolia, Chief designer at the Lamb Wool Craft Co."
